WALT WHITMAN MALL EXPANSION PLANNED!!

A MASSIVE EXPANSION is planned for the Walt Whitman Mall.  A Site Plan is under review by Town of Huntington Officials.  The Site Plan calls for .....

- A 47% expansion in floor area, including parking garage.

- A 4-story parking garage to hold close to 1,500 cars.

- A Bus Depot attached to the parking garage.

- An addition to the entire length of the mall into the parking lot on the West side  (Route 110), part of which will be 2 stories, to accommodate new retail space and/or food concessions.

- Major expansions to the space currently leased by Saks and Macys.

- Removal of all landscaping on Route 110, with parking abutting the road.

WE BELIEVE the Mall expansion will increase traffic; increase crime; increase noise; increase litter and decrease property values.  We believe Simon Properties seeks to build another Roosevelt Field.

WE ARE The Huntington Coalition, formed to oppose and stop this mall expansion through community effort.  If you believe as we do; if you want more information; or if you want to REVIEW THE SITE PLAN, please join us at our next community meeting:

Tuesday 11/18/08 @ 7PM

Road work at Rt 110/Jericho Tpke

HI, THE STATE WILL HAVE REPRESENTATIVES AT SILAS WOOD SCHOOL ON SEPT 10, 2008 FROM 4PM TILL 9PM TO FIELD ANY QUESTIONS THE LOCAL RESIDENTS MAY HAVE REGARDING WORK THAT WILL BE DONE AT RT.110 AND JERICHO TPKE..

09/03/08 UPDATE

Hello, I hope that last message is clear.  It was printed in the 09/03/08 edition of The Pennysaver.

We have submitted a request for a copy of the new Simon Mall site plan.

I have not received a response from Town Councilman Cuthbertson or Besen.

I did get another call from the Simon Mall PR representative.  If I understood him correctly, they plan to have a community meeting as soon as they get the go ahead for their plan from the Town.

You will be receiving an e-mail from Jim Vee, regarding a community garage sale that is designed to spread the word about the mall/Lowes situation.

I noticed today that a left turn arrow was installed at the intersection of New York Ave. and Jericho Tpke.  There are also new traffic signals installed but not operating yet on New York Ave, south of Wolf Hill Rd.  I am not a conspiracy theorist but I find this timing odd since one if the main complaints at the Lowes meeting was that trucks making deliveries will use New York Ave and bypass the traffic lights on 110.

I don't mind attempting to get information from the town and I know some of you have requested information too.   If you can write or e-mail your concerns that would be helpful.  It takes more than one voice.
